What is Coaxial cable?
At a point in time or the other, one must have wondered the types of cable that are used by the telecommunications industries in transferring signals without interference. The answer is the Coaxial cable which can be described as a type of copper cable built specifically with a metal shield and other components set up to block signal interference. It is majorly used by cable TV companies to connect their satellite antenna to customer homes. It is used in networks and to facilitate broadband internet connection through a cable modem. It can so be simply described as a type of electrical cable that has an inner conductor by a tubular insulating layer that is surrounded by a tubular conducting shield.
Coaxial cable was invented in 1880 by an English engineer and mathematician by the name Oliver Heaviside, who patented the design in the same year. Coaxial cable received its name because it constitutes one physical channel that carries the signal surrounded, following a layer of insulation, and another concentric physical channel, both running along the same axis, the external channel serves as a ground. Coaxial cable is a cable used in the transmission of video, communication and audio. This cable has a characteristic of high bandwidth and a great transmission capacity.
The are various types of the coaxial cable but the most common sizes are Radio Guide 6, Radio Guide 11 and Radio Guide 56: the number of these versions of cables refer to the diameter of the cables. They are also called RF cables which means Radio frequency.
The coaxial cable is constructed with a centre conductor that is surrounded by a dielectric of circular cross section and an outer conductor which also has a circular cross-section. The signals within the bandwidth of operation of the coax cable have a standard configuration known as transverse electric and magnetic (TEM). In this TEM mode, the electric field shuttle between the centre and outer conductor and are of uniform strength through the cross section of the cable but the magnetic field lines are circular and perpendicular to the overall length of the cable. Therefore, a continuous cable with perfect conducting shield, no electric or magnetic field extent beyond the outer conductor, this helps prevent both signal leakage and any form of ingress.
The coaxial cable is made up of four primary components which include;
· A core copper wire that functions as the primary channel
· A dielectric plastic insulator that houses the copper
· A braided mesh that lies beneath the insulator. This serves to prevent the external interference of electromagnetic signals
· The external layer which is made of teflon or plastic coating that is used to protect the inner copper from any form of physical damage.
Where is coaxial cable used?
A broad range of applications exist for coaxial cables. The coaxial cable is primarily used by cable TV companies for connecting the satellites to their customers. It is also used by telephone companies to help connect base offices to the connection poles with close proximity to each customer. It is also used in offices and homes as an ethernet connectivity medium and in most data centres. Coaxial cable is used as a transmission line for radio frequency signals. One advantage that coaxial cable have over other types of radio transmission channels is that an ideal coaxial cable possesses the electromagnetic field that carries the signal that only exists in the space between the inner and outer conductors. This attribute allows coaxial cable to be installed next to metal objects without power losses that are characteristic or other types of transmission lines. The heavy duty design of coaxial cables allows them to carry signals over a long distance with little or no frequency degradation. In most cases, coax cables laid by cable companies a long time ago are still capable of providing Hi-definition TV signals and high speed internet access at the same time. More so, some coax cables are designed for low bandwidths applications and may not provide enough bandwidth to carry a full Hi-definition signal. A certain coax cable “RG-6" is the best choice for High definition TV signals and cable internet service.
Why cut Cables
The purpose that drives the cutting of cables varies according to purpose and industries. A neatly done cutting allows for seamless transfer of signal between terminals and additional cables pieces while improper cutting may lead to fire outbreaks. To set up an electrical cable cabinet, different wires who are have similar uses are attempted to be harnessed, but for this to be achieved the wires have to maintain an actual length that is defined based on the intended cabinet preparation or communication set up requirements. Also, for recycling processes where the metal conduit of the wire is a gold mine.
How to cut coaxial cable
Machines exist that are used for the sole purpose of cable and wire cutting. These machines are referred to as cable cutting machines and wire cutting machines, all depending in the material. As discussed before, coaxial cables are strong cables used in communication and signal propagation and transfer, therefore they are expected to make up telecommunications base stations. This is the place where received signals are interpreted through some specific machines. However, to link up this different devices that are used in the signal transfers, coaxial cables are used. To ensure proper fixing and avoid shortage, the cables are cut according to a predefined length. Cutting machines can be automatic or semiautomatic depending on the help required to trigger full functionality. The wires to be are placed in the tongue of the machines, there is an interface that allows the specific length of cable to be picked, the wire does the measurement and cutting simultaneously, producing the desired length of coaxial cable. In a case where a full length of wire is required to be cut, all that is needed is placing the wire in the tongue and in a matter of seconds, the cables start getting released from the machine at the wanted length.
Why use our Machines?
At Turing , our coaxial cable cutting machines, possess a strong blade that enables the coaxial cable to be cut effectively. Because, it is important to note that coaxial cables are very strong and possess an inward metal shield which used for stopping interference of other signals. Our cutting machines possess an in built screen that is used to guide the machines on cable length and cutting pattern. Therefore, be sure to get a value for money when you buy from us.
